The error line no had moved to the location of an implicit cast elsewhere, not where I was explicitly casting - I understood that it was the same error as I was originally working on - same type cast issue - hadn't noticed the line number change. The successful cast on the line shown caused a problem with an equals, (which caused an implicit cast), a few lines</message>
